Notice from KESCO on the current electricity supply situation
KESCO informs consumers that in recent days the power system has been facing an extraordinary situation as a result of a significant increase in electricity consumption, which currently cannot be fully covered by domestic production.
Due to this increase, KESCO is obliged to secure around 50% of electricity through imports, under very difficult conditions in the regional and international markets. At present, cross-border capacities are limited, creating major pressure on securing the required volumes.
The supplier has acted and continues to act with full responsibility, undertaking all necessary efforts to cover electricity nominations, both through bilateral contracts and through day-ahead trading and intraday offers. However, due to the current market realities and cross-border limitations—where the Kosovo–Serbia border is not commercially functional, while the borders with Montenegro and North Macedonia have limited capacities that are insufficient to cover the country’s total demand—securing electricity in line with actual needs remains challenging.
It should also be emphasized that the ALPEX market, due to limited liquidity during these days of high demand, has not offered sufficient quantities of electricity, making it impossible to fully meet needs solely through this trading mechanism.
In this context, KESCO feels obliged to transparently inform consumers about the real situation and the objective reasons that have led to the application of electricity restrictions when necessary, with the aim of preserving power system security and stability.
KESCO remains committed, in cooperation with the responsible institutions, to making every effort to secure electricity supply and minimize the impact on consumers, and thanks them for their understanding under these extraordinary circumstances.
