Appeal to save electricity, imports are costing millions of euros
In recent days, Kosovo has been facing a significant and unpredictable increase in demand for electricity, reaching levels of over 1,000 megawatts per hour.
Due to the drop in temperatures, this demand is significantly higher compared to typical spring periods, when consumption is usually lower due to more favorable climatic conditions.
Domestic production capacities are currently limited and reach up to 500 megawatt hours per hour. Consequently, a significant part of consumption must be ensured through imports from international electricity markets. Market prices are currently high, reaching figures of over 100 euros per MWh. This has caused the additional cost of providing the missing energy to run into millions of euros – a heavy burden on the energy system.
Given these developments, we call on all citizens to exercise maximum caution in the use of electricity and to actively contribute to its conservation.
The rational use of energy is not only an act of civic responsibility, but also an urgent need to maintain energy stability and reduce costs for the country.
We recommend avoiding the use of devices that consume a lot of electricity, especially heating devices during peak hours, so that this situation can be overcome as easily as possible.
This is a time when solidarity and collective responsibility are key to overcoming the situation with the least impact on the economy and the daily lives of citizens.
